Why we built this:
Session updates sent to Talon. One often include Cart Items, which can specify any number of attributes for that item (SKU, price, category, etc) – including the item's quantity.
If your integration lists the quantity of cart items, then multiple instances of the same product will be viewed as a single cart item with a quantity.
If you'd prefer to select or discount a single instance of that product, we recommend Cart Item Flattening. With this option turned on, multiples of the same product will be viewed individually, and so selecting or applying a discount will affect just one of that item (like a buy one, get one free sale on one item).
Cart Item Flattening Overview
Cart Item Flattening separates the cart items so that multiples of any item in the cart are evaluated individually. Per-item discounts will then apply to each instance of the item. Once enabled, Talon. One would take an item with quantity "5" and instead handle that as five separate single items.
In the example below without Cart Item Flattening enabled, the effect would only trigger on an item if there were five separate items in the customer session –– perhaps five pizzas each of different sizes and toppings.
But with Cart Item Flattening enabled, this would work even if the session had one item of quantity five – such as five large cheese pizzas.
Why would you use this feature?
If your use case involves:
- Picking items out of a list (i.e. discounts only on the 4th item)
- Product Bundling
Then we strongly suggest you consider enabling this setting.
How do you use Cart Item Flattening?
Cart Item Flattening is a per-application setting available in the Campaign Evaluation settings of each application. Please make certain to extensively test in staging prior to enabling, and reach out to support@talon.one with any questions.
