What is an Effect?
In Talon. One, Effects occur when either ALL or SOME of the Conditions of a rule are validated to TRUE. When the Rule Engine evaluates the conditions, Effects will only be triggered if the Conditions are valid.
Effects are defined in the rules of your campaign, for example set a discount of 5% or give a free item to a customer.
When you select +Add Effects a drop down will appear with a list of possibilities to build your condition. Below is a list of available options and their definitions.
Apply cart item discount
Use Cart Item Discounts to trigger a discount for a specific item in a customer's cart (in a list). The Cart Item Filter you have saved can be used to give more specific and flexible discounts as Effects. Read more about Cart Item Discounts. For example, set a discount on a specific category like "Winter Gloves" or make an SKU free.
Set a discount
Use this effect to give a general discount on a customer session. You can also enter formulas in the Value field to create more dynamic discounts. For a dollar amount discount, type in the amount into the value field (e.g., 10 for 10€ off). Percentage discounts require the formula “SessionTotal * 10%”.
If you want to give a free item if the customer qualifies for all conditions. Input the SKU or by variable to determine what is added to their cart.
Add item to cart
Select this option if you want to update an attribute value of a profile or session. For example, if a customer enters a valid coupon code, you can update their "Profile Credit" or loyalty points to a new amount.
Update a value
This is a very useful Effect if you want to trigger discounts or rewards for a subscription business model.
Set a notification
To notify customers of special offers or rewards on your site, you can select the "Set notification" Effect and trigger a message. Read how to create a Notification As Effect here.
Create Coupon & Create a Referral Code
Choose to generate a Coupon Code or Referral Code as an effect of your campaign. If a customer makes a purchase of X amount, send them a code for their next purchase. Configure the Coupon details in Settings.
A Webhook will execute effects outside the Talon. One API and trigger third party services like Email or SMS. Webhooks will appear in Effects only if they have been configured in the Developers section of your account. Learn how to configure a Webhook here.
For example, create a webhook that will trigger an email to a customer when their friend redeems a Referral Code.
